Elektra Collektive Unconscious performs three movements from Romano Crivici's Slavic Grooves and Meditations.

This was filmed in February 2020 just before the Covid-19 lockdown and the death of music in Australia.

Here's what Romano says about the pieces

"These three movements are from a set of works titled Slavic Grooves and Meditations. They were written during the time my Serbian/Hungarian/Ukranian mother began her long and gradual unravelling of self through dementia and are based on various Balkan songs she sang to me. Towards the end of her life they became the only way we communicated - holding hands and singing them together.

Suspended is capturing the limbo world she inhabited at the; Lutko Moja translates to 'doll of mine'; and Ide Vreme is 'goes the time'.

How fortunate I am to have had the opportunity to work with the wonderful musicians here, performing not only my written notes, but, through their creative improvisations, adding their own soul to the meditations.

And thanks be to Judith Nielsen herself, who made this completion possible via her profoundly generous support of culture, soul, and the human heart"
